Travel Podcasts: Ireland, Innsbruck, and "I Do's"

Each week, Frommer's brings you two fresh podcasts stuffed with travel tips, news, and inspiration. Recordings are made from our weekly call-in show on WABC-770AM in New York and our nationally syndicated radio program.

First up, Frommer's editorial director Pauline Frommer and editor-in-chief Jason Cochran mark St. Patrick's Day by inviting listeners to call in with questions about and recommendations for travel in Ireland. That leads to discussions of the island's natural beauty, livestock traffic jams, and attractions such as the Ring of Kerry and Dublin's Trinity College. One caller shares an evocative reminiscence that includes a job review for an ineffective Irish sheepdog.

But the Emerald Isle isn't the episode's only destination. Pauline and Jason also dispense advice about seeing Italy and Israel, and they talk about two of the week's biggest travel stories: 1.) the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max jet after two deadly crashes and 2.) the partial opening of New York's Hudson Yards, "the largest real estate development in U.S. history."

Over on our podcast hosted by Pauline and her father, company founder Arthur Frommer, the main topic of discussion this week is Pauline's recent trip to Innsbruck, Austria. After attempting to ski the Alps in a "howling blizzard," Pauline decides she'd rather explore the region's cultural offerings and finds a rich vein of Tyrolean and Hapsburg history.

Later, Pauline chats with author Susan Breslow about her book The Complete Guide to Vow Renewals: How to Create a Celebration of Marriage That You'll Love (cowritten with Geri Bain). What does saying "I do" a second time to the same person have to do with travel? “You can certainly have a vow renewal at home," says Breslow, "but the most romantic ones are at a destination, whether it’s a beach or a castle or sailing down the river.”
