Hidden from the street in the back of a beautiful garden, this modern wooden structure combines environmental awareness with extremely comfortable lodgings. With only five rooms and a free breakfast, some might call this a bed and breakfast instead of a hotel. The warm smell of larch wood (the construction material) hits your nose when you enter the lobby, a glassed-in atrium with a staircase leading up to the rooms. Quality insulation, LED lighting, solar panels, and zero-carbon output give these lodgings its ecological creds, as well as self-cleaning tiles that absorb air-pollution. There’s no skimping on comfort though: Rooms are chic, warm, and minimalist, with vintage-esque furniture and high-tech Japanese toilets. A microwave and refrigerator are available for guests in the breakfast room, which is open all day. Bicycles are on hand, as well as a 500 sq. m (5,381 sq. ft.) garden for communing with nature.
