Maybe it’s the smiling young staff in jeans or the ecological ethos, but there’s something alternative in the air at this adorable boutique hotel on the Canal St-Martin. While the rooms are on the small side, they are light and airy, with lots of blond wood, clean lines, and views out onto the tree-lined canal. Each floor only has two rooms, ranging from the snug “City” to the spacious “Suite Zen,” which can accommodate a couple with two children. On some floors, two rooms can be connected to form a large “apartment.” When you check in, you’ll be handed a loaner iPad loaded with information and apps on Paris, as well as restaurant recommendations. The buffet breakfast and movies on demand are included in your room rate. The cool restaurant serves lunch and nighttime tapas until 11pm.
