Hither, Yon and Beyond: Take to the Skies with These Domestic and International Airfares

If you need to take a short hop across your part of the country or if you're in for the long haul bound for Europe or even down under, we've got some deals for you.

At the time of this writing, there were still seats available for only $1 one-way through National Airlines' "Salute to Heroes" sale that we told you about in Tuesday's special mailing. Surprising! Of course, most of those available are for flights out of Las Vegas on the September 11 travel date, but there are some open slots out of LA and Philly and first-class seats out of everywhere but San Francisco. One ecstatic reader from Los Angeles wrote in to say thanks and to let us know that she was taking a roundtrip flight LA to Vegas to scout for locations for her upcoming wedding--all for $2!

Two short-term sales at Delta end tonight, August 16. The first, an Atlanta-centric sale, features one-way fares from $34 to $69 for select cities to and from, you guessed it, Atlanta. These prices are good for travel from August 26-October 2. You can get the rules, restrictions and participating gateways at www.delta.com/travel/sp_offers/atl_080102/index.jsp#cities. The second sale is for transpacific journeys to Honolulu and Maui good for travel from September 2-December 14. Full details are at www.delta.com/travel/sp_offers/hawaii_080802/index.jsp and roundtrip sample fares include:

  • Birmingham $565
  • Cincinnati $560
  • Milwaukee $545

    For Maui

  • Oklahoma City $535
  • Los Angeles $426
  • NYC-Kennedy $647

You'll have a little more time to make your travel plans with Delta's third sale worth mentioning on roundtrip flights to sunny Florida, high-rollin' Las Vegas and jazz capital New Orleans. Sample fares, mostly out of the south and southeast, run from $108-208. Tickets must be purchased by Tuesday, August 20 good for travel through December 14. Details for this sale are online here, www.delta.com/travel/sp_offers/fla_las_msy_081402/index.jsp.

Albuquerque-based Rio Grande Air is offering discount fares across the American Southwest for as little as $38 roundtrip if you purchase by August 23. The three-year old airline services Albuquerque and Taos, New Mexico and Durango, Colorado and code-shares with Great Plains Airlines to offer additional flights to Colorado Springs, Nashville, Tulsa and Oklahoma as well. Call 877/IFLYRGA or go the Web site www.iflyrga.com. Sale fares are good for travel in September.

For transatlantic travel look no further than Continental, which is discounting tickets through August 29 for travel November1-December 12 and then again January 12-March 31. Routes are from the U.S. to eight different European countries including perennial favorites Italy, France and Ireland. Prices range from $435 to just under $600. Complete details can be found by clicking here.

Cathay Air's deal of the month (or months, actually) is their "Circle Asia" ticket from $748 out of Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York. For this price, you can fly, nay, must fly from your U.S. gateway to Hong Kong to Singapore to Bangkok and back to the U.S. in that order. You can change the order, but or a minimum fee of $75. You can purchase up to September 30, 2002 (or until they're sold out), and you can fly out between September 30-October 31 with the last date of travel November 30. These passes tend to sell out very, very quickly. For additional information visit the Web site at www.cathay-usa.com/dotm/dotm.asp.

Finally, Air New Zealand flying to both Sydney and Auckland for the rest of August for only $850 out of Los Angeles International. For flights from September 1 through December 5 the price goes up to $924. All tickets must be booked by August 31 for either fare. These are Web-only offers. For travel to Sydney go to www.quik-auctions.com/nz/specials/vinsydtest, for Auckland, www.quik-auctions.com/nz/specials/vinakltest.

As with all tickets, prices listed do not included a variety of taxes and fees. Be sure to read the fine print for added costs.
