Named 2013’s best new live venue by SF Weekly, this bar/restaurant/venue is still an incredible place to catch dinner and a show in the Mission District. You don’t even need to change locations! Sister restaurant The Vestry, housed in the same complex, serves upscale comfort food in a loud, lively setting—a contrast to its Gothic church theme. After enjoying cocktails and food at the rustic wood tables or on the back twinkle-lit patio, head into the music venue in a separate high-ceilinged room that was once a mortuary chapel. Make your way to the front to see the band in action, or head to the mezzanine for a bird’s-eye view and an up-close look at the arched ceiling. There are two bars in the performance space, but it’s just as easy to refill drinks in the restaurant area, where the lines are generally shorter. Indie punk rock acts as well as 19-piece orchestras and everything in between have been on the bill. Check the website for bookings.
