A near-perfect rendition of San Francisco’s ever-popular seasonal new American restaurant, Range is two things at once: a somewhat quiet, urban-chic cocktail/bar dining area in the front and a rather noisy, boxy dining room in the back. In both spots you’ll enjoy some of the city’s finest food at excellent prices. From a spring greens soup that transforms the tops of root vegetables into the most luxurious, velvety, Indian-spiced soup (that’s miraculously both light and rich) to glazed pork ribs enhanced with roasted cauliflower, pickled shallots, and mustard seed vinaigrette to red wine-braised short ribs done so right it’ll bring tears to your eyes, you really can’t go wrong here. Bonus: Its Mission District location puts you right in the center of the bar and cafe action.
