If you want to go to Paris, and you live on the West Coast, you are in luck, albeit for a limited time only. The carrier Air Tahiti Nui (tel. 877/824-4846; www.airtahitinui-usa.com) has a one-week only sale on round-trip, nonstop coach-class flights from Los Angeles to Paris from a low $575. You must book before or on July 23, and the promotion is valid for two travel periods October 25, 2007-March 25, 2008. From October 25-December 10, the fare is $635; and it is priced at $575 for travel December 24, 2007 through March 25, 2008. This deal is noteworthy, for example, because it's still valid during Christmas and New Year's weeks. Taxes and fuel surcharges are included, but government fees are not. Not interested in Paris? Well, once you get off the plane you can hop on France's high-speed rail and get to one or more of its seventeen destinations--Lyon, Marseille, or Aix-en-Provence.
Here's the nitty-gritty: You can fly on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and flights typically depart at 12:30pm and arrive in Paris at Charles de Gaulle the next morning, about 8:30am. The return flights typically depart on Mondays, Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays, around 11:30 in the morning and arrive the same day in California at about 2:30pm. You must stay at least one Saturday night and cannot stay more than a month. The airline will add two additional flights during the peak holiday period between Christmas and New Year's, December 9 through January 9, 2008.
