Frommer's Airfare Deals for the Week of December 5, 2012

We've highlighted sales on Frontier, Sun Country, AirTran and Southwest, plus we tell just who those people are who get to cut in the TSA lines.

Winter Fares to/from Colorado

The new sale from Frontier (tel. 800/432-1359; www.flyfrontier.com) features some pretty great deals to/from Colorado Springs and Denver. Fares are valid for travel Mondays through Thursdays, as well as Saturdays, from January 7 through February 13.

Some markets do not offer daily connections. Due to schedule changes, markets may not connect throughout the valid travel period.

Tickets must be booked by 11:59pm ET, December 10. Other carriers (United) are matching along some routes.

Wing It! Sale from Sun Country

Sun Country (tel. 800/752-1218; www.suncountry.com) Wing It! sale features round-trip fares starting at $138, including all taxes.

This sale expires December 5 at 11:59pm CT. Travel is valid for January, though specific travel dates will vary by route. Be sure to click our Fare Details for more info.

AirTran Sale for the New Year

AirTran's (tel. 800/AIR-TRAN; www.airtran.com) New Year Sale is valid for travel any day of the week from January 7 through May 15. Travel to/from Florida is valid only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Avoid blackout dates February 15-18, March 8-15 & 22, and April 1 & 5; and for travel to/from Florida Feb 15-18, Mar 7-23 & 28, and Apr 1 & 5.

All bookings must be made by 11:59pm PT, December 13.

Travel Deals from Southwest

The latest weekly sale from Southwest (tel. 800/435-9792; www.southwest.com) is valid for Monday through Saturday travel, from January 7 through May 15. Sale fares may not be available on all flights, such as those that operate during peak travel periods. Avoid Blackout Dates: February 15-18, March 7-23, March 28-April 1, and April 5.

Tickets must be booked by December 13, 11:59pm PT.

Q. I was in the security line at the airport yesterday and it seemed that some people were able to bypass others in the security line and move right to the front. These people were not airline employees as far as I could tell. If the TSA is a government organization, how do they justify preferential treatment for some classes of passengers?
