Budget Buenos Aires: Air and Hotel Combos Start from $100 a Day

March 31, 2003--Mention Argentina and people tend to thing of the tango, beef with every meal, the opulence of every major European city and juxtaposed with that a sunken economy and ever-growing poverty. The country's financial straits, while unfortunate, provide an opportunity to visit the country rather cheaply and contribute much-needed tourist dollars to the economy. We have two deals to Buenos Aires that are worth mentioning.

First up is Go-Today's six-night/seven-day package to BA that starts from only $599. That's right, Go-Today, who we often report for their outstanding budget-minded packages to Europe. They're now expanding the reach into the South American market. That price is for airfare, six night's in the Embajador Hotel, daily breakfasts, airport transfers and a city tour for departures out of New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C. and Miami on Mondays through Wednesdays (you'll have to add an additional $25 each way for flights on Thursday-Sunday). Taxes and security fees come in around $99, and there is a minimum $10 document mailing fee. Prices are based on double occupancy (meaning two people flying together and staying in the same room.) Upgrades to more expensive hotels are available as are departures out of other cities for additional fees. This deal is valid for travel from April 2-June 12, then again from August 18-December 11 (in between those two periods the base price jumps $150). For more information, go online to http://www.gotoday.com/AR_FGBA.ASP or call 425/487-9632. Please note that this is a toll-call and you're charged an additional $25 for phone reservations.

The second trip is cheaper, starting from only $555 before tax, but it also has more limitations. Persvoyage Travel is currently offering Monday-only departures in April from Miami to Buenos Aires for a six-night stay in the recent renovated Hotel Lafayette. In addition to your flight and hotel, this package also includes daily breakfasts, a dinner (with a tango show), a city tour and airport transfers to and from your hotel. Expect to pay and additional $60-$70 for taxes and security fees. While the company does have a website (www.persvoyage.com), you won't find any information about this deal there nor can you book online. Instead, call 888/355-7377 or e-mail persvoyage@persvoyage.com.
