Am planning on spending 12 days over Christmas with my family in Thailand - Our tentative itinerary is:
5 days - beach resort 4 days Chang Mai 3 days Bangkok
Now I'm wondering about the possiblity of changing up our trip to include a side trip to Angkor Wat.
4 days beach resort 3 days Chang Mai 2 days Angkor Wat 3 days Bangkok
My only concern is how doable Angkor Wat really is withought making ourselves exhausted and crazy. I have no idea how much time it takes to get over to Angkor Wat and do justice to seeing it. 2 days including travel would be all we could manage. Not sure if it's worth it...
Visiting Thailand can be exciting. If you have enough time during your visit, you will be able to see many interesting places and attractions. However, many people do not have that long time to spend. miami seo
While at Cambodia, what I did, was hire a Taxi for my whole stay, just paying the Taxi driver for the 5 days, was cheap and he was very good, took us to Angkor Wat and waited for us the entire time outside the different monuments, same thing for Restaurants, etc.
Just a curiosity, our driver was very nice, maybe one of the nices persons, we invited him to have a burguer at a mexican restaurant in Siem Reap (he never entered in to that place) actually, it was the first time he ate a burguer.....
We gave him the money, unfortunately, he gave it to his "boss"..... We wanted him to have the money but well...
So, getting back to the point, get a taxi, no need to get exhausted or crazy!
Angkor Wat is a nice destination that i would recommend to anyone, explore your own is one of a good idea but having a tour guide is really useful for you to maximise your time and places to see in a short time, some places you might miss while exploring around the sites. I think two days is really short for Angkor Wat, and the cost of spending in and out this country is really expensive too such as visa, departure tax, flight etc... I probably just stay in Thailand for 12 days or have more than 2 days in Cambodia because you just fly in and out of Cambodia which is waisting your time of traveling by just waiting at the airport.
Tough decision. I think your choice really depends on the type of trip you're going for. If you're looking to just relax, then it will probably be too much to squeeze in a trip to Cambodia. However, if you don't mind moving around, then I would absolutely recommend going to Angkor Wat--it may be exhausting but I say it's worth it. Angkor Wat is incredible and in my opinion it's one of the must-see destinations in the world. Ideally I would recommend spending at least 3 days there, but I think you could certainly do it in 2 days. I would definitely recommend hiring a tuk-tuk driver and a tour guide when you're there (it's very affordable) so that you can make the most of your time at the temples.
