Hi Wondering if it worth to stay for 2 days in Pattaya or just a day trip from Bangkok is good enough. We have selected some attractions in Pattaya - still not sure if it worth to stay there for a day

Pattaya takes around 2 hours by bus from Bangkok. A hotel in Pattaya is cheaper than Bangkok if everything is about the same quality. Local transportation in Pattaya City is only 10 baht. Most tourists would be saving a little money staying overnight.
Many tourists spend weeks in Pattaya so they must find something to do if only to loaf around cheaply. These are also couples and women traveling alone. The malls right now are crawling with tourists from many countries - some even with children. Take the cheap ferry ride over to Koh Larn for only 30 baht from Bali Hai Pier. If you intend to swim at a beach then consider Hua Hin or some other beach - Pattaya Beach is okay for shopping, restaurants, malls and nightlife but tourists usually do not swim at the beach.

Pattaya is a real dump. It is overbuilt and overcrowded, the beach is not nice, and the sex industry is everywhere. I don't know what "attractions" you selected there. If you want to go for 2 days to a beach near Bangkok go to Ko Samet.
hmmmm - the thing is i have four days in Bangkok (before flying out to Singapore) - Can you recommend any place near by Bangkok so i can make a day trip - place where sex industry is not so prominent

Ko Samet is about a 3-hour trip - bus and then ferry. It's a little long for a day trip, but would make a good overnight trip.

Everywhere in Thailand you will see men with their Thai girlfriends or female tourists with their "toy-boys" but this doesn't mean you are obligated to also include this in your itinerary. Millions of tourists visit the Patpong market but never go in the bars. Same for shopping on Sukhumvit Road, millions of tourists go there but they ignore the "local life" if they choose. Don't worry if you or your friend happen to pass by a bar - no one in the bar will force you into one! Same for Pattaya - even though there is a nightlife of sorts there are also millions of women tourists and family groups who visit that city because it is a cheap relaxing holiday. Beach at Pattaya sucks for actual swimming by most European tourists but that is why many hotels have pools. A short 30 baht ferry ride brings you to Koh Larn island.

The only beach resort close enough for a day trip from Bangkok is Pattaya and nearby locations (it takes 1 hour 30 mins by taxi, and the fare will be about 1,500 to get there, getting back is cheaper for some reason, plenty of taxis will do the return trip for 800 baht!).
If you want a quiet beach, the main Pattaya beach is not good - too many street sellers constantly asking you to buy all sorts of stuff. Naklua beach is my recommendation. It's a good quality beach, clean and quiet, with a good selection of nearby bars/restaurants.
