Can anybody tell me when is the best time to go to Thailand? My husband and I were thinking either May or November? We want spend 3 weeks in Thailand and were thinking about Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Lampang and a beach. We can go anytime after April, but would like to go sometime before December.
Both times are pretty good. Tourists do travel to Thailand all year round. You are either entering the rainy season at the beginning or coming at the end of it. High season starts around November and low season (for expensive hotels) begins around April or May.
Probably the first part of November might be okay for you. Even during the rainy season there is plenty of sun for tanning. The rain usually only lasts an hour or so and often it falls at nighttime.
Choose the month that is most convenient to you. Keep in mind that if you fly close to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday period the prices for airfare will be at the highest level, like Christmas and New Years travel.
Personally I like the summer months (June to August) when the hotels are cheapest and there are fewer tourists. It does take some work to find a cheap flight during that time period though.
It is sooooooooooo hot in May. April is the Songkran festival and well worth seeing. But Nov is definately cooler - of course more crowded with tourists.
What is the coolest month to travel to Thailand. We are thinking of using Smart Tours.....has anyone done the Thailand trip with them? We were thinking of the add on trip to Cambodia. We can go in any month but prefer the coolest and less humid months. Of course we are also concerned about the safety there with all the news coverage of the Bangkok unrest. Thank you for any suggestions and help.BJ
May is quieter, November though is just the start of the high season. Bangkok with lampang and Chiang Mai good idea. Where you go to an island or beach depends what you are looking for, commercial and touristy or less so. There are so many nice beaches and islands.
Definitely November - preferably late November as that is the start of the dry/warm season. May is extremely hot and humid. Also, if you are intending on visiting Chiang Mai, the waterfalls will be more spectacular and the plantlife will be in full bloom in late November.
