Does any one know of tour groups that go to Australia & New Zealand that use airlines other than Quantas?  Most tour companies I've contacted so far only seem to use Quantas and the majority

Does any one know of tour groups that go to Australia & New Zealand that use airlines other than Quantas?  Most tour companies I've contacted so far only seem to use Quantas and the majority of their trans-pacific flights only have business or economy coach.  This makes for a really uncomfortable flight when you're older and taller than usual.

United flies to Australia and was one of the first to provide (and charge extra for) economy plus. But I'm 6'1" and have flown with Qantas in economy lots of times across the Pacific pond, i can manage just fine, sleep about 8 hours of the 14 hours, with occasional reshuffling of my long limbs in semi-slumber. Now and then I get up and stretch - an aisle seat is most important for that.
But check out seatguru as suggested for exact details of seat measurements on different airplanes.

Also look at Air New Zealand - both Qantas and Air New Zealand are very nice, no-fuss-no-muss but you get what you need and they leave you alone when it matters.

If you can book independently from the tour company, check out Air Pacific and build in a one-day or two-day stopover in Fiji (the airport is in Nadi pronounced Nan-de), that breaks the journey and gives you a tropical layover. Often it costs hardly more because of promotional considerations by the Fijian government.

I just returned from a trip to Sydney and I used United Economy plus.  I am thin, 5'6" with long legs. I have made this trip a number of times and I have a really hard time flying Qantas economy.  I found United Economy plus was much more comfortable than Qantas economy.  When the person in front put the seat back, it did not press into my knees.  That said, I imagine that Qantas Economy Plus provides much more width and leg room (check seat Guru) but the cost on United for Economy Plus is a fraction of the cost for Economy Plus on Qantas.  United has some planes between NYC and  California where ALL the seats are Economy Plus and to my knowledge that segment of the trip is charged as Economy so the only extra charge for Economy Plus seating is the segement between California and Sydney.  United did not have the amenities  that Qantas has (no individual movies just overhead, the food was marginally edibile) but I felt that my comfort was more imortant than the amenities.  I did find that the flight attendants on United were more personable than on Qantas.

I am booked on United to Sydney in October.  I asked about the extra cost of econmoy plus and was told it was not an option for me as I was not an "elite mileage member"  - thta it was just for "special" people.
