Hi, I am looking to go to Cuba in Feb 2012 with US state dept approval on a cultural project. when I do a search for air travel I come up with nothing. I am not interested in a tour. will be going so

Hi,

I am looking to go to Cuba in Feb 2012 with US state dept approval on a cultural project. when I do a search for air travel I come up with nothing. I am not interested in a tour. will be going solo.

any ideas? I live on west coast so I could travel to Cancun and over to Cuba or can go from Miami. What is cheapest way to fly to Cuba, or Havana.

also looking to take in some baseball games, anyone have any insight?

Music hot pots or out of the way places?

I am a experienced traveler and looking for some good tips.

Hello Ekobak,

I am also planning my trip to Cuba in February. Broke my head trying to create a route that help me to save some time since I will be departing either from Sao Paulo or Tel Aviv ...

No route direct from USA, despite a reference of Delta doing something. The best way for you, I guess, would fly till Cancun or Mexico City and then over to the island. Also from Panama, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, but I guess that would make the trip too long. Check on cabana de aviacion website for more info.

There are charter flights from the USA to Havana but you will need to contact the airlines directly for information. United for example recently received approval IIRC to resume charters from MIA to HAV as well as from the west coast. You won't find these flights on most search engines.

P.Weber- So far those charter flights have been way too high.For 90 miles,really crazy prices.I really wanted to take a licensed tour,but it's the charter flight price holding me back.

I believe that Americans going with Insight Travel get a 2-3 hour lecture each day on the values of Socialism.

And thats after signing an affidavit to attend all the program.

Sounds like a waste of time.

You need to see the Island and its people to understand Cuba.

If you're taken to see "poor" people then its a show you can do without.

Cubans will invite you to have a meal with them. See their family and share some Music.

They're very open and innocent. You just need a translator. Most young Cubans speak English.
