Looking to plan our 30th anniversary with a nice trip. Been to St. Thomas (x2), San Juan, Dom.Rep., so looking for something special in the northern Carribean..don't want to go as far a Aruba, St. Lucia, etc. Looking for relaxation, minimal sights, great hotel with great service would be a plus, no fast pace area, no nightlife, a little shopping...Don't want to spend thousands of $$$ but willing to spend some.. Would love to hear about your favorites--Do not want to do Jamaica or Mexico, but would be willing to do something in the Caymans, T&C, etc. THANKS!
Is St Barth too far south? You fly into St Maarten. It is viewed as a really expensive island, but can be done economically if you opt for a less expensive hotel or rent a villa.
Emeraude Plage, Village St Jean, the Normadie, the Christopher are all somewhat moderate hotels. You can go up from there, Eden Rock is gorgeous but could be noisy (wave action) if the water is rough. You will need a car to get to the best beaches, restaurants and shopping. There is nightlife, but it's mostly in town - you would never know it's there if you dont look for it (it doesnt get going until well after midnight).
The T&C and Caymans are among the few Caribbean islands I havent been to yet. Once you go to St Barth, all else pales in comparison, but Im an avid snorkeler, so alternate with Belize/Mexico - and this year Bonaire. None of them can compare.
With St. Barths being my neighbor I think it is more on the pricey side (you will have to dish out alot) and extremely french lol......
On the other hand Cayman Islands is a great choice and seems to fit every thing you've described. Yes, it can be pricey but not as bad as St.Barths I believe.
Haven't been to Turks & Caicos so can't comment on it.
