My adult son and I are headed to the Grace Bay Beach area at the end of January mainly to snorkel the reefs. In the evenings, we love to socialize. While we will want to visit with other folks visiting the island, in the end we usually end up finding friendly social spots in the evenings where more locals hang out. Yes, I have taught my son to talk to strangers.

I thought on this trip I would check in for suggestions before we got there! Any other suggestions for things to do that all the travel guides miss? (Most of the suggestions in the travel guides is not what we are looking for.) We are looking forward to getting to know the island and people soon!

Headed out from rural Northern Vermont soon.

Great local hang out spots are Three Queens in Blue Hills, Middle Caicos Cafe near the Veranda Resort, Vino Tiempo Wine Bar in Salt Mills, Flamingo (Ricky's) near Ocean Club West, Pelican Bay at Royal West Indies and the Mini Golf/Fun Spot (they have karaoke some nights too - loads of fun) up by Long Bay. That's all I can think of for now, will be back if I come up with any others.

Hope you have a great time!

Nothing beats mingliing with the locals, and enjoying the local TCI food / culture. :-)

Some of my favorite places include Three Queens, Da Conch Shack, Horse-eye Jack's (great steamed fish), and Froggie's (all in Blue Hills). Ricky's Flamingo Cafe is a great beachfront restaurant / bar, located next to Club Med. Smokey's is a local staple, now located across from The Veranda (check out his Wednesday night fish fry). Club Sodax serves up my favorite island lunch, located on Leeward Hwy. Also, Hole in the Wall, located near the airport, serves great local food, with more of a Jamaican influence.

All in all, it's hard to beat Three Queens on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for local interaction. The game of dominos becomes a spectator sport, and Ms. Martha in the kitchen is one of the best cooks on the island, IMO. Dick also does a great job behind the bar.

Hope this helps.
