I have the good fortune of getting a condo for a week from a friend for free. Trying to budget for a family of 5. 4 adults (2 age 21) and a 14 year old. Beach, golf and fishing are desired things to do. I need an idea of a reasonable budget for a week, including a modest food and beverage allowance. Thanks
Honestly, there's no way I can come up with a flat budget figure, because there are too many variables. In general, if you eat every meal out at expensive resort / tourist oriented restaurants, you'll spend a small fortune. However, it's been our experiences that if we mix it up a bit with some of the less expensive, local oriented restaurants, we not only save $$, but we also get to experience the true local food and culture.
For example, our family of four might enjoy dinner one night at the casual Ricky's Flamingo Cafe, all for around $80. The next night, we might splurge on dinner at Coco Bistro, and have a tab near $200. Wednesday night is "Chicken or Ribs" night at the Tiki Hut, where we can each order delicious ribs dinners for $13 each. Next night, we might splurge at Caicos Cafe for around $150. There are also numerous other local-oriented restaurants serving great food, at reasonable prices, to help cut costs.
Groceries are readily available on Provo, but are pricier than in the States. Count on items costing about 30 - 40% higher on average than at home. It's best to pack as many non-parishables as you can for the trip down. You don't want to have to buy your kitchen staples while there.
Fishing excursions are very expensive, IMO. So much so, that we no longer fish there, opting instead for the Florida Keys. You can "Google" various fishing charters to get an idea, and I'm sure greens / cart fees are on the Provo Golf Course site.
Sorry I can't give you a flat figure. Our family of four averages about $200 a day on food and beverage, with breakfast included at the resort. We eat all dinners and most lunches out.
