 Midas Resort San Ignacio?

So i'm wondering -- what's the story on this property? And what is their river beach like?

I stayed at Midas for a study abroad trip over winter break. The staff is incredibly friendly, especially the owner, Mike, the bartender, Thomas, and the night desk manager, Darren. People complain because they are expected American luxury from a third-world country. The hotel was very nice and much more secure and clean than others around town. Breakfast was good but expect slow service. People all over Belize tend to be so relaxed that you have to get used to slower service. If something doesn't work in your room, like the AC or the hot water, be sure to tell the staff about it. The drinks at the bar are good and reasonably priced. Internet did not work in the rooms when I stayed there, but it worked fine in the breakfast area and at the pool/bar. If you talk to Mike, he is more than happy to let you use the grill to cook out at the pool. The rooms were comfortable and the staff cleaned every day. There is a karaoke bar nearby, so at night you can hear music from there but we got used to it. There are dogs running the premises, but they are incredibly friendly. They keep the strays around town out of the property and help keep the property safe. The pool was wonderful and there is a lit up cave under the waterfall. It was an easy walk into downtown and even closer to the river and the market. Several places nearby will even deliver food to Midas, and the front desk keeps menus and will call for you. Overall, it was a good place to be. I can understand why some people complain as things were not always perfect and the staff was unorganized sometimes. Midas is a beautiful property. It is rustic, not luxurious. If you want a real Belizean experience with added saftey and some of the comforts of Western-world life, it is the perfect place.
