My husband and I are staying at an all-inclusive eco lodge in Costa Rica at the end of May. I have found lots of information about tipping in Costa Rica, but nothing specific to an all-inclusive eco lodge. Besides the wonderful person in the office who has answered my many questions, there will be the servers when we eat, the housekeeping people, the guides who will take us on hikes and other activities, and anyone else who might help to make our stay enjoyable.
Do I tip everyone individually? Do I tip at the end of the trip in one amount and ask that everyone receive a portion? I would appreciate any advice at all on this. Thanks!
The lodge will probably give you guidance on this before or during your stay, as they know that if you're confused about tipping, you're less likely to tip. They may even offer to collect and allocate tips. If you are worried about it, you could always ask them in advance.
When we stayed at La Paloma, Osa Peninsula, the manager recommended waiting and adding your tips to your final bill. They will share the tips amongst the staff, and you could also add a special tip for a particular person (guide, staff, etc.). Have a wonderful time!
I always tip when I travel. Always the maids and the waiters. However, I would start out by leaving a large tip the first night for both the maid and the wait service and then lowering it. I then continue to tip every day. You will get top notch service the rest of your stay....it's unbelievable what a little tipping will do! Try it!
I'm also staying at an all-inclusive eco lodge in Costa Rica and I've been researching the very same question. The suggestions I've received are to tip $10/person each day. So if there are 2 of you staying for 4 nights, that would be $80. The lodge will divide that amount up between all service personnel. All inclusive vacations, hotels, cruises, etc. never includes tips unless specifically stated.
