We are going to be in Tallinn for a day from our cruise in July, and I would like to know what currencies are accepted in Estonia. Are Euros accepted, or do we need to get the local currency? (I had heard Estonia might be converting to euros)
Do they accept Roubles? (we would be in Tallinn after being in St. Petersburg)
Any other tips for this day would be welcomed. I have a map of the walking tour and intend to walk around as much as possible.
I am only guessing here, but I think offering rubles in Estonia would be highly offensive, considering their history with Russia. As for euros, you may find some merchants/restaurants will accept them but at a very punitive exchange rate. Why not do the well-mannered-tourist thing and acquire a small supply of kroons from an ATM, or use a credit card.
Yes, Estonia was using the Estonian Kroon up until the beginnning of 2011, when they switched to the Euro zone, much to the displeasure of the Estonian people. So plan on bringing Euros with you to Estonia.
