I am planning a trip from Philadelphia to London and on the way back Paris to Philadelphia. I have received a few negative comments regarding U.S. Airways being very small in comparison to other airlines and sort of nightmarish!
Can you provide any further insight? The best deals (nonstop and financially) are for U.S. Airways but I am hesitant!
Well, it may be small in comparison with United, Delta, American, but it's still a major airline, larger than quite a number of the European flag carriers. And it's a member of Star Alliance, which gives you all the connections you might need to cities USAir doesn't serve directly.
So, really, the only size you need to worry about here is the kind you research on SeatGuru.com--how close together are the seats, etc.
A complex question, always in constant change, it seems. In spite of lots of experiences, all our comments are really annecdotal and I hope others contribute. And European-based airlines are always more enjoyable and Aer Lingus and Icelandia are cheapest to Europe from a few major cities in the US, including to Paris. My recent experiences: 1) American is in bankruptcy and it shows on every fligth. I had two disastrous trips, roundtrip to JFK/Barcelona with long, unannounced delays and no help from personnel on either end or for making new connections. 2) Delta is supposedly a partner of Air France, doesn't matter, their service has deteriorated from the best decades ago to the worst today of any, in my opinion. 3) I had two very nice roundtrips on USAir to Europe from Philadelphia since last September, with good US connections. Good service, nice plane, not the best breakfast, but all have declined in quality, and okay for the reduced price to spend on meals in Europe.
