A day in Nice

We will be staying overnight in Nice in late April, hopefully arriving late morning and then departing reasonably early the next morning as we are catching to train across to Venice that day and don't want to arrive too late.(Not sure of the train times yet and if anyone can tell me a site that will give me these times that would be great.)
Anyway, I was wanting to know a couple of suggestions as to how to spend our short stay in Nice.
Another thought, we will be coming from Avignon and haven't worked out those train times yet either.

You can use the Trenitalia website to see your options from Nice to Venice. Just remember that the name of Nice in Italian is "Nizza" and the name of Venice is "Venezia"

A quick check of this week's schedule shows a 7:55am train that gets you to Venice by 4pm with only one train switch. After that, you are stuck with multiple train changes (sometimes as many as four) or longer travel times, but usually by no more than an hour on the one-seat-change routes.

If your travel day includes the days immediately around or on April 25, it is a national holiday in Italy, so buy your tickets well in advance.

I would plan to have dinner at La Baie D'Amalfie in Nice. One of my favorite restaurants anywhere...mmmm
