We are leaving May 5 from ams and flying into paris for 4 days. I have booked a hotel and then pick up a car after our 4days. We then plan to drive to befort and stay 1 night and the drive to milan foe 2 nights and then venice for 2 nights, drive to floreance for 1 night and the to sienna and then into to rome for 4 nights leave rome and drive to genoa for 1 night , And then 1 night in lyon and then paris for 1 night and then fly back to ams. We will have a car for 2 weeks. And i have booked hotels that have free parking . Since this is our first time in europe we would like to see as much as possble . but we are on a tight budget . so any tip that could save us a few dollars would be great. We also have a GPS. its just my husband and my self. we are in our late 40.
Thank you in advance for any help you give.

That's a lot of driving for a fairly short time. Not only can it be tiring, but it will be a lot more expensive than taking trains.

If it's still possible to change your flights, in fact, you could save even more by flying home directly from Rome. I'm going to assume from the AMS point that you are flying with the Delta/KLM/Alitalia bunch; if that's the case, there are certainly flights out of Rome that will save you the backtracking and give you additional time to play with.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectation.

This is a very, very busy itinerary.  I know you want to pack a lot in, but what I see you packing in a lot of is travel time, not sightseeing time.  I agree with PHeymont that it's a really long drive back to Paris to return the car, which you don't really need for pretty much any of this itinerary, and especially in Italy, where trains are fairly cheap and parking is expensive and a hassle.  Unless you have very specific sightseeing goals in Genoa and Lyon, you are signing on for three days of driving to get from Rome to Paris, when you could fly more cheaply (easyJet for one flies that route at a bargain fare) and then have those days to sightsee.

This site may be helpful in determining drive times and especially the true cost of driving, once you add in the cost of expensive European fuel and expensive European road tolls:  www. viamichelin.com
