My wife and I are going to Paris for the third time and we want to go where we can enjoy live music (singer and Piano sort of thing) have a cocktail and maybe get some light fare.

There aren't really that many places that have that kind of thing, assuming you don't just mean a jazz club (which don't often have singers and pianos). Some of the cafe/bars occasionally have live music, but it's not predictable, you'd do best to just look in an entertainment guide for when you are there and see what is in the music section (ie, buy Pariscope at a newsstand). They come out on Wednesday for a week.
You don't go for the food, that's for sure, and the music the time I was there was nothing to write home about, but it was a piano player and a singer. I think they might have better music in the basement, I was on ground floor, which is pretty casual. It's wasn't like Edith Piaf or anything like that.
As the previous blogger suggested there are few cabaret(piano/singer) experiences and, obviously, the singer sings in French. I speak French passably, but often cannot comprehend the lyrics in real time aurally. A few clubs specialize, as in Dixieland, but most have a wider range of music. Some jazz clubs actually have dancing and, therefore, not bebop or straightahead jazz that night. Most have smoking, except the Swan Bar.
If you love gypsy/manouche jazz a la Django Reinhardt/Hot Club of Paris, see opportunities at:
The Chope Des Puces is a small cafe on the Rue des Rosiers within the Paris Puces Flea Markets at St Ouen. They have live manouche jazz at the week ends, in the afternoons, whilst the markets are active, but close in the evening as the markets close down.
It is a small venue, but OK, it is nice sitting outside with the music playing, having a beer and watching the world go by. The staff are very friendly. Upstairs is the Django academy teaching young musicians:
How about a little help here? We are also 60 and enjoy the night life, but not with "kids" (under 25). Anything, just about, with live music in a bar atmosphere. We are planning a trip for May and know what to do during the day, but need help at night...

Time Out Paris and Pariscope are two publications you should look into for what's going on in Paris. Google them.

Sorry, I do not speak or read frence. And, I doubt either one has a filter for the criteria we have specified here... How about a helpful response from someone?

How about a little politeness from you? Time Out Paris is in English, but maybe you just want someone to do the research for you. Good luck with that.

I sincerely hope that when you're in France you'll at least have the courtesy to say Bon Jour (Good Morning), Bon Soir (Good Evening), Merci (Thank you) and S'il vous plait (Please), otherwise you'll get surly service; deservingly. And then, you'll come back home and say the French are awful.
How do you expect to cope in restaurants - the menus are in French?
I thought the main point of these forums is for members to share their personal experiences. These days, everyone knows how to Google and I think commanding someone to "Google them" is disingenuous. Time Out Paris will not tell us where 60 year olds can go to enjoy live music for our age group. So to anyone that can answer that question, I do thank you in advance.
Mr. Rbon, I have always read your comments with interest as a knowledgeable contributor, but you do not know me. So if you are interested, my wife and I have been to Paris 7 years ago and did use the common French greetings as you suggested. We enjoyed our interaction with the French people, we were able to navigate the French menus very well thank you, and we returned to the USA and told our friends how delightful the French people are. We now will be returning soon for another adventure with the good people of Paris. There is a big difference between reading menus and using common phrases that trying to navigate through the Pariscope web site. I hope you aren't implying that only French speaking Americans will enjoy Paris?
My experience in observing this forum is that some people just like to chime in without offering any real advice, apparently to get their quantity of posting numbers up, e.g. "I haven't been to the restaurant you are asking about, but the one 15 blocks away is wonderful."
So, johnac, have you followed the links given above by ChristinaW and Jazzophyl? Perhaps they have "not been filtered for the criteria" you specified. What were the criteria, by the way, apart from being "just about anything with live music in a bar atmosphere", which you must admit is not very specific.
Hello johnac... First let me thank you for mentioning that I'm a helpful contributor, golly it's almost been 5 years that I've been here.
Now, I'd like to start from the bottom of your recent post, and that's the poster who offers nothing but a sentence of nothing. I believe a lot of us who frequently post here know of one female poster who makes inane remarks like that - her identity will not be revealed by me
I certainly don't think that only French speaking Americans are the only ones who should visit Paris. My comment to your post referred to the fact that you wrote "...don't speak or read..." Sorry for my misinterpretation.
I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you about your comment "...everyone knows how to Google...".
No they don't! I am amazed at the people who come here asking questions that if they put a simple phrase in the Google search box, a myriad of answers would pop-up. Perhaps, they know Google exists but don't know how to use it or are they lazy, thinking we on the Frommers boards will have the answer at our fingertips. I'll go for the lazy. If I do answer their post and find on Google what they're looking for, I'll post the result and mention they could have found it by Googling. Such as, "Where do I find a costume in Venice for the Carnival," a simple search would answer that question and then the poster could ask, "Have you ever used so-and-so?"
And, now to your initial query: Music for 60 year olds.
I'm not being snide, but I Googled Paris Piano Bars and found this info from of all places, Frommers, from April 2011 - 5 Great Hotel PIano Bars http://www.frommers.com/articles/7271.html
I also found that Harry's Bar in the Hotel Ritz (I've had a cocktail there, but never listened to their music), here's there website http://www.harrysbar.fr/
