I am planning a 2 week trip to Provence in September. I speak French fluently, so do not want to be on a tour with English speaking people, I want to interact with the locals. That being said, I would like to hook up with some French tours once I am there. I have been reading Rick Steves' book and he suggests flying to Nice and touring Provence from there. A tour company named "Provence Reservations" appears to have french tours. Can anyone comment on them? They have 3 day tours of Provence which sound very good. I am not renting a car, and I want to tour Le Luberon region. Also, recommendations for B & B in Nice would be great. Thanks for any suggestions! Lois
Hello, I been in Nice and the area around. Its the part of Provence with most turists. I recommend you try the area around Uzes. I think from England you can take a plain direct to Nimes airport and 30min from here in a buss you are in Uzes. This is real Provence and you will be aible to speak your French as much as you like. Have a look at some photos I took http://www.flickr.com/photos/25770767@N05/sets/72157621995151902/
Did you end up taking tours with Provence Reservation? If yes, would you recommend them? I'm thinking about going on a few tours with them in June but I can't find much information on them on the forums.
I have been in Provence twice in 2011. And can't wait to go back.
Maybe you should rethink the car idea, because I do belive that a car is a must. No need to leave a town just because the tour is. We loved the Luberon area.. Rousillon, Gordes, Isle Sur La Sorge...and many many more places. The previous trip was to Aix, Nice, Etc...the lower part. We loved this also..Very deferent from the Luberon region..which is our favourite Just GO!!
be carefull.... Nice is on french Riviera and Luberon is in Provence. There is around 200 km between these two places... If you want to go only to Provence, the closest Airport is Marseille, not Nice.
