I am currently testing the waters for a suitable car to lease in France later this year. One vehicle that seems to stand out in terms of price is the Dacia Sandaro Stepway. It looks reasonable and seems roomy enough, it comes with a 1.5 l diesel engine, is marketed by Renault and uses Renault design and some Renault parts, but until yesterday I'd never heard of it.

I'll be doing some fast driving on autobahns and motorways, but mostly I'll just be pottering around secondary roads and would appreciate advice from anybody who might be familiar with this vehicle. Basic model Citroen C3 or C4 and Peugeot 207 would cost 150 to 350 Euros more for my 30 days but may be a better choice. It looks quite good in the brochure: http://www.dacia.fr/e-brochure/B90/index.html

I would appreciate the advice of anyone who may be familiar with this vehicle.

Dacia is a Romanian company, now a subsidiary of Renault. It started in he 1960s, making cars based on buying the designs and tooling of models discontinued by others, including Renault. Eventually developed designs of its own, and a serious market in Russia and South America. No reason to think it should be a problem...and thanks for spurrng me to research a company I knew little about!

Thank you. The Dacia does seem like a decent reliable and economical vehicle but events may have overtaken me.

Yesterday I went up to the Gold Coast to buy pool salt, chloromide and cydectin and happened on a Travel Expo where I was was offered a pretty good discount on a Peugeot 207 with built in GPS, 1.6l HdI engine and a glass roof (wonderful for ornithologists, I would imagine). It would cost me around 8 Euros per day more than the Dacia, but on the basis that it may be a little more economical, faster, is perhaps more comfortable and has a couple of extra air bags I am leaning towards that one at present.
