Need help with itinerary Paris to Geneva?
My husband changed his mind, and now wants to go to Geneva.  We will be staying in Paris, and then will need to take a train.  Is it far to Geneva?  We have 4 nights to spare for Geneva

My husband changed his mind, and now wants to go to Geneva.  We will be staying in Paris, and then will need to take a train.  Is it far to Geneva?  We have 4 nights to spare for Geneva.  Is that too long?  If so, is it possible to go from Geneva to Strasbourg?  And then we would go back to Paris from Strasbourg.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Mary ;)

I've been to Geneva a couple of times and frankly found it rather boring and much of the town not very attractive.  The lakeside is pleasant for walking, and there are some interesting museums, but the only really first rate attraction in my opinion is the trip to Chillon.  I'd rather choose almost any of Switzerland's other major towns, and also spend time on some of the famous train rides.

I agree that nearly everywhere else in Switzerland is more interesting than Geneva, although it's an attractive city.  If you have four days, you have enough time to go to somewhere like Lauterbrunnen, a small town south of Bern in the heart of the Alps that has some of the best scenery in the country.  Give it some thought.

Paris-Geneva takes just 3 hours 10 minutes, centre to centre by TGV-Lyria high-speed train, 9 departures daily.  From 25 euros if you pre-book at either www.tgv-europe.com (select Antarctic if you're from the USA to avoid being bumped to Rail Europe with higher prices and fees) or (as long as you get a self-print option) www.sbb.ch

geneva is nice enough, but it's a big city.  Deeper within Switzerland, little laces like Zermatt (at the foot of the Matterhorn) or Grindelwald (near Interlaken, at the foot of the Eiger) would be nicer.  You'd still ytake a TGV-Lyria to either Geneva or Lausanne (for Zermatt) or Basel (for Interlaken then Grindelwald), www.sbb.ch for times and fares betweeen Basel/Lausanne/Geneva and Zermatt/Grindelwald.
