I am a health nut and I live on healthy smoothies for breakfast, snacks, etc. I am also someone who really has to watch their weight.  I will be traveling in May to June for 29 days staying in 5 countries trying not to give in to pomme frites, etc.  HERE IS MY QUESTION:  I have a small (mini-blender) and since we are staying in apartments I would like to take it with me.  Do you think it would be approved by airport security since I am only taking one bag on the plane?

Yes, I do know that experiencing the food is one part of experiencing the culture and I intend to do that, but if I can stay somewhat on a healthy beginning of the day it would help me feel better about experiencing the CULTURE.  :)

Thanks for your help.

Two thoughts:
One, I know you won't totally resist the wonders of local food as you go...but it doesn't have to upset your eating plans. Careful planning in restaurants can help, and the amazing variety of fresh produce and fruit in the markets can be a treat as well.

The mini-blender shouldn't be a problem in transportation, especially if it's easily-accessible if they want to open the suitcase to check. The more significant question is whether the blender is dual-voltage (110-240). Most appliances with motors are not...check the electrical information on the baseplate of yours.

If it's not compatible, take a look at http://amazon.co.uk, Amazon's British website. They've got lots of models listed, and they will be 220-240 volt. Plug in in Britain, add a plug adapter on the Continent.

I love your diet. I love that you want to take care of your body. Welcome to Europe. You will find wonderful fruits and vegetables and yoghurt (if you like) to put in a blender. You will find that Europeans love health concoctions. Visit health food stores and see what I mean. In many European countries, people are going back to the foods of the land and hate fast foods and over-sugared foods. You can still sample many of the true foods of historic Europe without eating grease and corn syrup.

Blenders are fairly cheap here. I suggest you skip the hassles of security and buy one when you arrive, and then you never need to worry about frying the currents in your apartments. It will be a fun adventure to go shopping for one. Just learn the name of what a blender is called in the language of the country of your arrival.
