I will be arriving in Barcelona after two weeks of hiking. I want to spend the two nights I will have in Barcelona at an airport hotel because my international flight from Barcelona will be leaving at 6:50 AM. I also want to be able to access Barcelona for the one full day I will have there--have visited Barcelona previously. Which hotel has easy access ( shuttles ?) to the terminals and to the main part of Barcelona? Thank you for your help.
I had the same idea once, and while I loved the truly trippy Tryp for its futuristic interior, the location of the airport hotels in relationship to the airport's train shuttle into town just eats up time. (You can't walk there, you have to rely on the hotel shuttle, which is pokey). Worse, the very late Spanish dinner hour makes you want to take a taxi back to the hotel -- and since the hotels are actually within the airport zone, they can legally charge you the airport supplement, plus the night rate.
So if you were thinking of going into town, and taking the airport train back -- it could work if you plan to eat an early picnic dinner in your hotel room, and you can check out reviews for the Tryp. But if you plan to eat dinner in town, then you either face a hefty taxi bill or, if you take the train back to the airport, you'll be hanging around waiting for a hotel shuttle bus.
Were I to go back to Barcelona, I'd stay in a hotel in town and have them call me a taxi to the airport in the morning. It's a short ride, and at that hour, checking in and going through security is a breeze.
Second mushroom's idea. We took a taxi from the airport to our apartment, and arranged with the same driver to pick us up 8 days later for an early-morning flight. It was not horribly expensive, and absolutely stress-free...and stress-free is what you want when you have only a short break!
