Hi Stephanie,

With regards to your query regarding the sailing conditions around our beautiful Cape during January. We have a ferocious sou-easter wind that signals the beginning of summer here, and it usually continues from November-ish through to March-ish. The wind comes straight from the deep southern ocean and can really pack a punch. As with all seasons in Cape Town, the force of wind & rain can sometimes be offset by being on one (protected) side of the mountain (the Table Mountain chain) rather than the other. Relating this to sailing conditions, whilst the seas can be rough on the south-eatern side of the Cape during January, you may well find calmer waters once you round the Cape of Good Hope and head north up along South Africa's west coast.

Hope this helps,

Darren C Humphrys
