Just checking on latest ATM service: I have a mastercard logo debit/atm card. What is the experience with using this recently in South Africa?

My ATM card also has the MasterCard logo (Cirrus system). and I have never had a problem using it in South Africa, and as recently as 8 months ago. I prefer to only use the ATM's in airports, for safety reasons. The JNB airport has several ATM's from different banks on the mezzanine level - up the elevator or escalator from the arrivals lobby. The new Cape Town airport has at least one ATM on the main level but off the main lobby area - just ask at one of the desks if you cannot find it. The new Durban airport also has an ATM, but possibly outside the terminal (cannot recall exactly). The major shopping malls in these cities also have ATM's; I have used these too, and without encountering problems, but still prefer to use the ATM's in airports.

I was wondering the same thing, are there any cards that don't work in SA? I was thinking of American Express?
