You did not say what kind of restaurant or what kind of food, but here are my two suggestions.
In nearby Noank is Abbott's. You can get lobsters and all sorts of other seafood, eat outside right on the Mystic River with all sorts of boats passing you by. The food is just the best seafood, fresh and delish.
For breakfast, do NOT miss Kitchen Little, right near Mystic Seaport. It's a tiny place but the food is delicious!
