You can certainly spend a ton of money at Foxwood's three hotels. While the Grand Pequot Tower is conveniently located right above the casino, we prefer the Two Trees Inn. It is a beautiful, small hotel with a "rustic" feel -- you certainly feel like you are staying in the Connecticut woods. We get a suite with a king size bed and a fold out couch in the living room. Split four ways, it is certainly inexpensive. Much cheaper during the week than on the weekends, but look for specials. DO NOT stay at the new hotel at Mohegan Sun. Very expensive and extremely disappointing. You would think for $375 plus tax, it would be a bit luxurious. Hotel rooms in New York City for half the price are twice as big and much more comfortable. Four banana peels under the bed and I am paying over $400? I don't think I would return.
This may be a little late, but DON'T STAY AT FOXWOODS!!! Go to Mohegan Sun instead! Much better accomadations, better shows, better gambling, better and more restaurants, altogether a far BETTER (sorry for the pun on words)experiance. The staff is much friendlier as is the whole atmosphere. There are 3 great venues for entertainment, and I highly recommend going to see something (whatever is going on) in the cabaret. Terrific martini bar. And no, I am not an employee or a Tribal member. I live in the area and can easily go to either. However, all that said, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum at Foxwoods is not to be missed. It is awesome! Have a great time when you come! There is a lot of other great things in the area.
I agree with Tricia...don't stay at Foxwoods. The only problem is that the hotel at Mohegan Sun is ridiculously expensive...about $350 per room per night. If you would like upscale accommodations, I would suggest the Mystic Hilton, which is only about 10 minutes away...and Mystic is a beautiful town, anyway....seaport, quaint shops, great restaurants. If you must stay at a casino, look into the Two Trees Inn at Foxwoods....it's on the casino property (shuttle ride or 5 minute walk to main entrance). It has a "rustic" woodsy feel, but it is still elegant. We rented a suite (bedroom, adjoining room with pullout sofa) for only $85 on a Friday night in February. Sometimes they have great deals!
Foxwoods is expensive, but if you are willing to drive about 20 minutes from Mystic, you can get very upscale accomodations at a BARGAIN. We just stayed at the Mystic Hilton for $50 a night, plus taxes, during the week. We used Priceline and selected only the Mystic Seaport area and the 3-Star hotels. We bid $50/night and got it for three nights.
Having stayed at both casinos, I can recommend both. Each have lovely rooms, great restaurants, entertainment and are the two largest gaming facilities in the US. I do visit each a couple of times a year so I get mailings with special rates for Sun-Thurs stays which are much more reasonable then those advertised. I have found that while they do not discount a Saturday night, or Fridays during peak travel times, if you call the hotel rather than book on line you may get a better rate. Since these casinos have no local competition other than each other, unlike Atlantic City, even regular players aren't offered comp rooms (not talking about real high end players). If you do pay full price and plan to gamble, you will be racking up reward dollars which can be applied against your hotel bill. Just my opinion.
Highly recommend the casino hotels whether you are persuaded to move your event to Mohegan Sun or not. The Grand Pequot Tower and the new hotel at Mohegan Sun are extremly nice hotels with a metropolitan atmospgere. Other reviews talk about the Mystic Hilton which is a very nice hotel but for lots of activity round the clock you are better off staying at one of the casino hotels.
You don't have to stay at Foxwoods itself (or Mohegan Sun).
There are many less expensive accomodations within a few miles' radius of Foxwoods. If you're not going by car, you should know that some area hotels/motels even run shuttle vans or buses to both casinos.
Just got back from a one night stay at the 2 year old MGM Grand at Foxwoods, and it was beautiful! My regular room was very modern, spotless, and had an excellent view of the mountains. Stall shower, large sink, granite countertop, modern fixtures and fittings and faucet, solid doors, floor to ceiling windows, and a tv that goes up and down at the foot of the bed by remote control. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we checked out, every staffperson we encountered was professional and polite, competent and eager to be of service. We ate at Alta Strata, their fine dining italian restaurant, and the food and service was excellent. We had room service for breakfast, and as expected, it was excellent. Everywhere you look is attractive, and the elevators are fast, so you don't wait long. My only problem is that the dice at the craps tables were cold, and any slot machine I tried were quite stingy, too, but these things happen. I only made a little money at the roullette wheel. However, I'd definitly go back, great service means A LOT, and everything added up to a very nice time. The room rate was reasonable, too!
