Someone please help me. Im 17, and im planing to travel to the US with my friends family. They will be supporting me financially throughout the whole trip. Ill be turning 18 by dec, and our plans are to head to the States by May. Do i still need my parents consent?

Ive actually been living with this family for about 2years now. They are my boyfriends family actually. I know that his parents will need to apply for the affidavit of support (form I-134)

By the way. My parents dont have the best bank statements. But my boyfriends parents do. Is it possible if my parents just wrote a letter saying they allow me to go etc.

Please let me know, i need all the help i can get!
Thank you :)

Your information is unclear.  Do I understand that you are turning 18 in DEc and will come to the US with your boyfriend's family the following May?  If that is the case, I assume you will be considered an adult wherever you are - you would be here -  and you are applying for a tourists (short-term) visa - you should be able to get one.  Your parents are immaterial.

If you are applying for some other type of visa - then you are asking on the wrong place.  For anything else than a basic tourist visa you will need to get the appropriate information from the nearest US embassy. I know that student visas are available to young people enrolled in approved educational programs - but barring that I don;t know what type of visa you would qualify for.  And we certainly cannot provide advice.  You need info from the US embassy and possibly an immigration attorney - if that is what yo are contemplating.

While I agree with nytraveler in that you should seek answers to your visa questions elsewhere, I do believe that you will be judged on your own merits (and bank accounts!) due to the fact that you are considered an adult at age 18.

When applying for a US visitor's visa check to see what the exact requirements are for your nationality. Some countries are on the US Visa Waiver program which makes the process much easier for visitors.

But if you do need a visa, you will need to satisfy the embassy/consulate visa interview officer that you meet all the criteria for a US visitor's visa which includes a valid identity, no criminal background and have a valid reason for the visa. As an 18 year old you can apply on your own. The key success factors for the visa to be granted is to show evidence that you have sufficient funds to support your trip to the USA as well as evidence of strong ties back to your home country (for example you have family and proof of employment back home) which shows the officer you intend to return home after your vacation. If you have a proposed itinerary or a letter of invitation from US friends, it helps to bring that to the visa interview.

I've never heard of the I-134 being used in conjunction with a visitor visa application but it has been years since I've had to deal with CBP/INS. Typically it is used by a US citizen/permanent resident to demonstrate willingness to provide financial support for permanent resident applicants.
