Hi, I just returned from hiking in Yosemite National Park.  The trees, rocks, and waterfalls were spectacular.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a national park or forest that is similar in landscape -- e.g., lots of giant trees?  I'm looking in the western region.

I have visited almost all the national parks and can tell you that each one is unique.  There are some similarities between parks but the fun part is seeing something different so dont limit yourself to the same experience.  For Yosemite the sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and pockets of large trees are special.  You will not find exactly that at any other park.  If you are looking for something similar but different I would suggest planning a trip to Olympic NP.  There you will get your large trees, rocks etc.. but in a different perspective with more vegetation, high altitude alternatives, more water and a coast.  I suggest you set your sights on visiting other national parks to enjoy the variety our country has to offer.

As Darkside says, I think the best part of the National Parks system is that they each preserve the best of different landscapes and then there's the fact that there's nothing else like Yosemite.

I love Lassen:  http://www.nps.gov/lavo/index.htm Completely different and also fantastic.
Take the trail to the top of the mountain when it reopens:

Have you considered Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Parks?  They're beautiful and a lot less crowded than Yosemite.
