I'm heading west from Boston to meet up with a friend who lives in MN.  My train gets to Red Wing at 9pm. We would like to spend the night there and then take off early for a long day trip ending in Faribault.

Looking for recommendations for a driving trip or any sites we should not miss.

Also, we would like to stay in a B & B in RW but cannot find any with twin beds.

Thank you, QB

I would recommend the St James Hotel.  Altho not a B&B it is a wonderful old hotel and worth looking into.  There's lots to see in that area depending on the time of year....from apple orchards, to ski hills, to antique stores.  The bluffs around RW are great for climbing.

Red Wing is on The Great River Road which runs from northern Minnesota all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Here is a link to the MN portion of the road.  http://www.exploreminnesota.com/experiences/byways/detail.aspx?EntityId=21865

Or come on up to the Twin Cities! My hometown, Stillwater, MN is a lovely Victorian town on the St Croix River. Wonderful downtown, beautiful river valley and easy access to the freeway once you're ready to head south to Faribault.

I hope you enjoy your trip, don'tcha know. Oh yah!

[Southeastern MInnesota is one of my favorite places to take a car trip. Follow the Great River Road (hightway 61) south from Red Wing to La Crosse. Then start going west. This link might be helpful.http://www.bluffcountry.com/
