My husband and I are traveling to St. Louis on a work trip for over a week.  We will have an entire weekend to explore.  We love trying new and local food (hate chain restaurants like Applebee's, etc.).  We also like a few cocktails and listening to live music.  Any suggestions for good and fun things to do and places to eat?

University City and the Central West End have a lot of good restaurants and the areas both have a lot of character.  On Delmar in U City I would recommend Pi Pizzeria, Blueberry Hill if you are a chuck berry fan, Ranoush if you like middle eastern food and House of India for Indian food.

If you are in U city check out the Pagent - it's a great venue to listen to music.

St. Louis Pizza is known for provel cheese and a thin crust.  The best in my opinion is at a place called Nick and Elena's.  The area is not at all touristy and the restaurant is a bit of a hole in the wall, but they have amazing food and are family run.

The hill is a great place to get Italian food.  Have fun!
