Will be in KC for a couple of nights in September with 84 year old Mom and 50 something Sister. We lived in Independance back in the 60's so plan to see some sights and visit the old neighborhood. Trying to find a good steak, like the kind my Mama remembers from years ago. Doesn't have to be a fabulous room particuliarly and doesn't have to be in KC proper. I think we used to celebrate special events at the Majestic(might have that wrong). Suggestions for a great steak dinner please. I've read several mixed reviews on the Plaza and the Savoy. A great local place in the suburbs would be fine too. Thanks so much for any ideas you might have.

I know it's a chain but I like the Capital Grill on the Plaza.  If you want to stick to indepently owned restaurants (part of KC Originals) try JJs, Pierpoints (in Union Station) or the Webster House (adjacent to the new Kaufman Performing Arts Center).  Majestic has just reopened under new management and I haven't been there yet.  Enjoy whichever place you choose.

Savoy Grill is still open! It's downtown, barely changed since 1903. We took our parents there for their silver anniversary many years ago.

I'd avoid Capital Grille, you can find that in any big city.
