Good Street Views of Newport Mansions Possible?

I am visiting the Newport Mansions but will not have time to go into the mansions (some other time...). Would it be possible to get a good view of the exteriors of the mansions from the main street? I think I remember someone saying that you are not allowed onto any of the mansion grounds without buying a ticket. What about parking? Would there be a place for me to park if I just wanted to snap a couple pictures of the mansion exteriors without going in?

I guess I could see the mansions from the Cliff Walk...but I think this would only be a view of the backyards...

You can see some of the mansions from the main road (I think it is called Thames St) and Bellevue Ave.
The backyards along the cliff walk are nothing to scoff at either ;)

I don't know if it is true that you can't enter the grounds of any of the mansions without a ticket... Last time I biked around there I don't remember seeing any ticket takers at all the entry gates. Can't say for certain though.
