My husband and another couple will have about a day-and-a-half to stay and see Newport. Wondering where to stay and which mansions should be tops on our list. Also is the Cliff Walk a possibility in mid-November?

The cliff walk will definitely be open. Actually, mid-November will be a good time to go. Less tourists. Checkout newportinns.com, it's a co-op of all the bed and breakfasts in newport. Also, www.tablehound.com is an interactive directory of all Newport restaurants.
