I hope to be able to take my siblings, aged 60 to 74, on a German river cruise during fall 2008. 4 out of five siblings have never traveled to Europe. We are of German heritage and I hoped that this would be a attractive option for them. I wondered how the Viking River Cruises may differ from the Vantage River Cruises and if one had advantages versus the other. I would welcome any insights.
I would invite you to compare the value with Vantage and they have the newest rivership on the Rhine in 2007. They are considerably less expensive than Viking and great overall quality.
We just got back from the Viking Sky, Amsterdam to Vienna. The Viking cruise was very nice. The food, especially breakfast, was very good. They give you three options for dinner (one vegetarian) but if you don't like those, they will do simple chicken or a rump steak. There were several times we ate on our own in town and it was wonderful. The sidewalk cafes are perfect. Wertheim was one of the most beautiful places. It looked like something out of a movie set. Vienna is the most beautiful city in the world, in my opinion. I would be happy to go on and on but....you may email me if interested. Wintersnchome@aol.com
We took the Great Rivers of Europe cruise in 2006 with Grand Circle Travel. We really enjoyed the cruise and felt we got good value for our money. I don't wish to imply that they were "better" than the others, but they were certainly more than satisfactory. You might want to check them out as well.
I am about 57 with a 15 year old son... I want to take my wife and son on a German river cruise either at Christmas 2008 or May/June 2009. Want to go to Heidelberg... and Castles... but wasn't sure of the better cruises that will work for all of us.
