Could someone please tell me about the resorts in Curacao, specifically Breezes and Sunset Waters? Also, how the beaches in that area and is the water rough or calm. My husband is an avid diver and I only snorkel. We are looking for an all-inclusive resort. Any advice, help, and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
My wife and I just returnded 2-28, and we stayed at the Mariott, which exceeded my expectations. I read alot of mixed reviews about it, but for us, this place was great, although we didn't go all inclusive, which you probably don't want anyway. We only went to Hura Kulanda resort, which was also very nice, but not on the beach. The Mariott beach was rocky going into the water, but water was pretty calm.
We stayed at Breezes Super Clubs in Curacoa from June 6-13, 2008. Room 2328. I sent a comment card in about this when I left but have not gotten a responce. We got there on Friday to find that the hotel was taking in bus loads of locals. These people got the best room with views of the beach in # 800 building. They stayed through Sunday. I talked with several and they told me how discounted their stay was and I was shocked. We paid twice as much as them and we stayed in a room off to the side with no beach view at all.We asked to be upgraded but they said they had no room yet these people continued to come through late Friday getting the best beach front rooms.I complained but it did not good. Then the first day when we got in line to be served- they were ALWAYS waited on first. It happened in the bar, the beach grill and the main restaurant. It did not happen in the Spiciality restuarants. I stood in line for 15 minutes and I was the only one that was not of their nationality and was not waited on at all. They came and went and I was ignored compleatly. Finally I asked to be waited on and I was told that I had to get behind the ones that just walked up. I left in tears- never waited on. I went to the Man that said he was the manager .He apologized and sent some champaine to our room that was so awful that we could not drink it. It continued to happen until they left opn Sunday. It was an awful experiance to be discriminated againt like that.So the manager did nothing about it. We purchased the vacation because my husband is a Scuba Diver and it said that 6 days of scuba diving was included. My husband went on the first trip and it was good. Then he went back the 2nd day and they went to the exact same place and saw the exact same thing. When he questioned them about it, they said the 6 days inclludes the same dive every day. That is ridiculous. No divers want to dive the same exact placee 6 days in a row. especially an advanced diver with over 20 years experiance. My husband asked if they could go to another place on site like another part of the reef or the car wrecks and was told no- then he asked to substitute a dive for a boat dive and they said no. Then he asked if he could do a night dive instead and they said no it does not count and he had to pay $65.00 US extra for that.
So my husbad booked his scuba diving with the Marriot Hotel and another dive shop down the street. So we wasted our money- on non diving at Breezes because he forfited the other 4 dives that we paid for with the package. We paid for what they advertise on their site and did not get the scuba diving. If it included 6 days of diving only at the same exact place every day- they shopuld state that on their site. We paid to be humiliated and discriminated against.. And we paid twice as much as the locals that got waited on 1st and the best rooms.
Awful waste of money and it was expensive.
The food was good but we never got utinsels, water or drinks in the main restuarant because they were too busy waiting on all the locals and ignoring everyone else. We had to go and get everything ourselves. The Japanese restuarant was good as well. Other than that it was an awful experiance and we will never go there again and certainly would not recommend it.
We went to Sunset Waters in Oct 2007 and are going back October 2008. My wife and I loved the place. It is not a high end luxury resort, but the rooms were very nice (we stayed in a terrace room and others in our group had the loft rooms), most of them overlook the water (the hotel is on a seaside cliff) and have great sunset views. The food was very good and liquor and soft drinks are included. The dive shop is first rate and the staff friendly and knowledgable. The beach has a protected lagoon so the waters are calm.
Breezes - We stayed there, got the Jr. Suite which was suprising nice with a great view. Until night time when the disco which is directly below plays the bass so loud that your windows shake until after 2 am. Oh, and the pipe breaking in the ceiling one night and waking up to 2 inches of water? Well they gave us a certificate for 3 free nights on our next visit. Funny thing though, they would never respond to my attempts to use it.
On the weekend the locals overrun the place, plan on standing in line and then being treated poorly if you are white (no matter what country you are from).
Hallways smell like sewage.
On a positive note, you can eat and drink as much as you want and the food is decent and the drinks are good too. Not much to do on the island, 3 days would do it.
Service is poor, this is at best a 1.5 star resort. But, for the price (we got the jr suite for 230/nite u.s. for 2 people) I would do it again. We drank that much and we weren't in the room much, other than to sleep. We complained about the disco every night for the 8 nights we were there. No help...
