Best Driving Route from Ein Gedi to Akko in Israel?
I'm planning a trip this week to go from Ein Gedi to Akko.  Originally I had planned on going back to Beer Sheva (starting point), returning the rental care then taking the train up north.

I'm planning a trip this week to go from Ein Gedi to Akko.  Originally I had planned on going back to Beer Sheva (starting point), returning the rental care then taking the train up north.  Now I see on the map that the drive from Ein Gedi to Akko may be shorter.  What's the safest way to drive this route, back to Jerusalem then up north, or or via 90 up to the Kinneret.

Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Either way is safe.  If time is at a premium, I would take Highway 1 through Jerusalem, then the Trans-Israel Highway toll road (Route 6) north to avoid the traffic.  If you are using a rental car, about a month after your trip, your credit card will be charge the toll plus a surcharge, but it's not a huge cost (a camera photographs your license and people are billed monthly, quite high-tech).  You can take that north to toward the Haifa area, and then exit to make your way to Route 2 and the Haifa-Akko road.

Good luck!
