Does anyone have any advice on the best website and/or agent to book a cruise?  There are so many websites - how do we know who is reliable? We already know which cruise line and ship/date we want to cruise, so we really just need an agent to get us the best deal.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

We haven't done a cruise in a while  (are just beginning to plan one for late 2009) - but when we did, we booked via a T.A. making sure we knew exactly what we were getting, the cost and making certain we had the correct insurance. Those items can be covered adequately whether you use an online agent or go to one in person.

I think once this forum gets up and running well - you should see some good suggestions coming your way. It is more important to make certain you are getting a cruise experience that matches your personality. So, if you can, do some online research on the different cruise lines and see what kind of clientele they cater to. If you don't want a lot of kids onboard - don't book a Holiday cruise when kids are out of school.

Longer cruises tend to draw older, possibly more affluent folks and fewer children - just the opposite on shorter cruises - But, this is not 100% accurate - but, I did read that in a magazine once.

BON VOYAGE!

I understand your frustration. I myself had planned and taken a cruise and tour  to Alaska with my wife. I did all the homework, only to find out I needed a travel agent to book the details.

Subsequent to going on the trip, I became a travel agent. Now I do my own bookings to insure I get the best deal.

I also have booked a trip for next year with friends of mine and we have the best auites and locations.

If I can help advise you please feel free to contact me

Call Eve Rattner at America's Vacation Center, 800-576-4695.  She's the best.  We've never been disappointed.  She gives personal service.

I have used a few on-line agencies & then discovered www.cruisecompete.com  wherein you enter what, who & when you wish to cruise.

The aencies within cruisecompete will then send you quotes w/their various freebies to entice you.  Choose the best rate and off you go.

And I had no problems w/queries.  Received answers via telephone and e-mail.   Works for me.  And happy cruising.

If you know exactly what cruise you want, then I would suggest using cruisecompete.com. You post the cruise and travel agents respond with their best offer. Prices are set by the cruise line unless a large agency has bought a group of cabins. If that's the case the price will be less. However, many agencies offer 'freebies' such as paid gratuities, wine, ship  board credit, etc.

 Enjoy!

My wife and I have cruised three times now and we have had the best luck booking directly with the cruise line.  Their websites and phone reps are very helpful and will get you the best rate available.  We have also found Princess Cruise Line to be exceptional but be sure and book a room with a balcony.

www.cruisesonly.com is good.  We've used them for at least a half dozen cruises in the last 10 years.  This year we are booking directly through the cruise line as the price is the same - altho we are forgoing a $25./credit pp.  Our cruise is in Jan. so we'll be able to compare soon enough.

I will be taking my first cruise later this month!  We tried using an agent, but found that she was not reliable (not speaking of all agents, I think we just got a bad one!).  To gather information we called the cruise line directly and ended up booking directly with them - they were extremely helpful!

We used Norwegian Cruise Line

vacationstogo.com has been very good to us. We've booked two cruises through them and been very satisfied with price and service. Follow-up and reminders were timely and agents excellent. Knowledge is good and wilingness to follow up with cruise lines with questions has been great. I even wrote the President once with a suggestion (re booking resorts through their sister company) and received an almost-immediate, personal response. Highly recommend.

We use needcruisequote@aol.com. This is an e-mail address to George.

He is fantastic.  He gets back to you and is always willing to discuss options.  Very reliable.  I don't like booking cruises or trips online.  I feel that there is no personal involvement with the folks you are going to .

 Give George a try.

the best way to book from past experience is calling the cruise line directly

Both Cruise Value Center and Cruises-N-More book discount cruises.  Recently, I have purchased Baltic, Alaskan and Mexican cruises from them.  However, if you are a person who makes changes in reservations, go with a local travel agent.

We have been very pleased with our AAA travel agent who has planned three cruises for the two of us as well as a Disney World Trip for our entire family of eleven.  We like sitting down in a local office with a real person who knows us and knows what we like.  We call her when we have questions and she always returns calls the same day or tells us who is on call for her if she is traveling.

Our travel partners on one cruise were doing their own research and had found good deals on their own so we asked our AAA agent how much more they might have to pay if they booked their cruise with her.  Her answer, "I should be able to get it cheaper; we are AAA!"  Sure enough, her price was better than the one they had shopped for on-line.

We have done about 35 cruises with many travel agents.  Many I have found on Cruise Compete.  Most of the ones mentioned above have been excellent.  We have had only one bad experience and that was with "Cruise & Vacation Depot".  Just read what is included and find out if their cancellation policy is reasonable or are they out to cheat you.

We live in South Florida and Cruise about 3 times a year. Vacationstogo.com is the site we use all the time now. Once you sign up for the site you will be able to see the page 90 day ticker. This is when all the cruise lines start lowering there rates, the closer to the date the better the rates. Checj=k it out you will not be disappointed. Mike

Wonderful site. I have also used ecruises.com. But some of the biggies - Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia - are also really good. They have the available rooms on each floor plan, plus very good prices. You can't go wrong with any of these.
