Most islanders who visit Acireale go home with marzipan, as the town is famous for this confection. The best are sold at El Dorado, Corso Umberto 5 (tel. 095-601464), open Monday through Friday from 6am to midnight. It also makes the town's best chocolate cakes. A good competitor is Castorina, Piazza del Duomo (tel. 095-601546); try cassata Siciliana, the island's most celebrated cake, and some divine almond granita.
