Sofitel Agadir Review

This sleek and chic resort is a good mix of traditional architecture with some classy touches. The low-rise kasbah has a grand entrance -- 10m-high (33-ft.) wood doors and oversize, rooftop Moroccan lanterns -- and it doesn't disappoint once inside, either. A courtyard of sandstone, marble, zellij, and tabout-rendered walls houses a lounge of plush velvet chairs. Though the hotel has more than 270 rooms and suites, one doesn't feel cramped when staying here except within the rooms themselves, which for the most part are on the small side. It's worth paying more for the rooms with a balcony for the extra space; the suites also include a separate sitting room.

The resort has six bars -- including a cigar and cognac lounge -- and a beautifully designed and landscaped pool. King-size, four-poster sun beds and oversize hammocks add a luxuriant touch. A wood path through palms and succulents leads to the private beach where you'll find more sun beds, a watersports center, and a small, well-kept horse stable (2-hr. rides cost 350dh). There's also a choice of four restaurants, though I recommend staying only on a B&B basis as lunch and dinner here can often fail to meet expectations. The restaurants Le Mauresque Lounge and Le Maxwell are only a short walk away.

Facilities:
4 restaurants; 6 bars; private beach; heated pool; hammam and salon; room service; tennis courts; watersports

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
