Aix is well equipped for visitors, with flower gardens, a casino (the Palais de Savoie), a racecourse, a golf course, and Lac du Bourget, which has a beach. Thermes d'Aix-les-Bains (tel. 04-79-35-38-50; www.thermaix.com) lies in the center of town, near the casino, the Temple of Diana, and the Hôtel de Ville (town hall). Closer to the lake, a string of flower beds and ornamental shrubs border the town's waterside promenades, where you can take a lovely stroll.

Steamboats take visitors on a beautiful 4-hour boat ride on Lac du Bourget. The trip travels most of the length of the Canal de Savière (which links the lake with the Rhône) between early February and mid-December, daily or four times a week, depending on the season. Prices for boat rides range from 14€ to 15€. For departure times, which change almost weekly throughout the season, contact the ferry operator, Les Bateaux d'Aix (tel. 04-79-63-45-00). Boats depart from the piers of Grand Port, 3km (1 3/4 miles) northwest of the center. You can also take a bus ride from Aix to the town of Revard, at 1,524m (5,000 ft.), which affords a panoramic view of Mont Blanc. For information, contact Trans Savoie (tel. 04-79-68-32-90).
