If you like the bustle of a city stay but your bank balance prohibits the Hyatt or La Posada, this is your place. A total remodel in 2001 turned this five-story 1960s hotel into a comfortable Art Deco inn with the color blue as a theme. It's nothing fancy but neither are the prices. Rooms are medium size with a small bath that has a two-sink outer vanity. Beds are awesomely comfortable. A hot breakfast greets you in the mornings. Street noise from busy Central Avenue carries into the rooms but quiets down at bedtime. Old Town is a brisk 20-minute walk away. A lovely and large pool with grass makes for a great cool-off spot in summer. Note that at press time, this hotel was moving to the Clarion banner so a name change may occur.
