Introduction to Alexandria Bay

Nestled in the Thousand Islands region of New York State, Alexandria Bay is a lively, scenic port wedged between the United States and Canada on the St. Lawrence River. Despite prevalent tacky T-shirt shops and vendors peddling knickknacks, strolling around is fun, particularly by the docks where travelers park their motorboats and yachts. Alexandria Bay is best used as a jumping-off-point for sights and activities on the St. Lawrence River. Some 1,800 islands pepper this span of the river, and exploring quiet, pristine coves or popular water routes is an exciting summertime activity. Where else can you buy lunch at a floating hot dog stand? Alexandria Bay is a ghost town in winter, but vacationers should take advantage of the low rates to cross-country ski or snowmobile on the river.
