Nightlife

Summer is entertainment time in Amalfi, when musical events are held throughout town. Among the most striking are the piano and vocal concerts held in the Chiostro del Paradiso (Piazza del Duomo, off the Duomo's atrium) July through September on Friday evenings.

The town's other key entertainment is visiting one of its many pleasant cafes to sip an aperitivo or enjoy a gelato. On Piazza Duomo, try Bar Francese, Piazza Duomo 20 (tel. 089-871049), with its elegant seating and excellent pastries. Overlooking the sea is Gran Caffè di Amalfi, Corso Repubbliche Marinare (tel. 089-857874), a standout for apertivos. Gelateria Porto Salvo, Piazza Duomo 22 (tel. 089-871655; closed Jan-Mar) is one of the best gelaterie on this coast -- try the mandorla candita (candied almond) flavor. Pasticceria Pansa, Piazza Duomo 40 (tel. 089-871065; closed Tues) has been creating delicious sweets since 1830.
